- Case Studies: opportunity for learners to apply their knowledge of the management of acute low back pain in two case studies representing the signs, symptoms and issues frequently seen in a primary care setting. Links to the Guidelines and Care Plan sections are interwoven throughout the case studies to help the learner clarify assessment and management decisions.
- Care Plan: set of algorithms delineating a rapid and efficient process to assess adult patients with acute low back pain. Application of these algorithms assists the clinician to quickly and confidently identify potentially serious underlying conditions and assist the patient to develop a plan to manage their back pain.
- Guidelines: set of recommended strategies released by the U.S. Agency for Health Care Policy and Research in 1994, for the assessment and treatment of acute low back pain in adults, based on the best scientific literature available at the time
