Special Studies - EMG/SEP - Harm/Cost

Inserting small needle electrodes into muscle tissue is invasive, causes some patients discomfort, and may cause bruising. Patients who have severe pain, low pain thresholds, excessive anxiety, or conflicting emotional symptoms may not be able to participate fully in the examination.

EMG and other electrophysiologic tests are moderately expensive.
