Case Review: A typical case of lumbar disc herniation

Glen represents a patient with a fairly typical history and findings of an acute lumbar disc herniation.

The initial management is identical to that of idiopathic LBP and unless there is no improvement, x-rays, sophisticated imaging or specialist referral are not indicated in the first four weeks.

Because these patients are frequently unable to continue regular modified work, one has to be aware of and deal with any of the prognostic "Pink Flags" for continuing disability.
