Correct, an NSAID or acetaminophen is appropriate. The choice of NSAID's for symptom control should be guided by comorbidity and side-effects. NSAID's, including ASA and ibuprofen, can cause allergic reaction and GI irritation or ulceration. Phenylbutazone is not recommended, based on increased risks of bone marrow suppression.
